Town Council rejects Alexandra Road development proposal

27 Nov 2014; land North of Alexandra Road
Lymington & Pennington Town Council last night recommended refusal of an application by Pennyfarthing Homes for a development of 95 new dwellings on a site north of Alexandra Road, which was released from the Greenbelt in order to provide much needed new homes, of which 70% are intended to be ‘affordable’ homes. At a meeting with residents, chaired by Cllr Rogerson, the council reached a unanimous recommendation to refuse the application following discussion and after hearing objections which Mrs Jill Vallance summarised on behalf of local residents. Nic King of the Lymington Society added that the proposed development failed on policy grounds namely it was out of character with its surroundings, had inadequate SANGS (accessible natural green space) provision and was not a ‘sustainable’ development. The developers, Pennyfarthing Homes, chose not to speak at the meeting other than to answer residents’ questions.

The deadline to make a comment on this proposed development is: 03.12.2014.
You can submit a comment online to NFDC at: http://planweb3.newforest.gov.uk/online-applications/applicationDetails.do?activeTab=makeComment&keyVal=_NEWFO_DCAPR_189949.

Chairman’s Address from AGM

cropped-logo_small.jpgLymington Society AGM March 2014

Chairman’s Address

Thank you all for coming. Last year I described 2012 as a welcome rest from all those major controversial issues such as the Ferries, Redrow and Wetherspoons. In 2013 again the business of the Society has been more routine.

One feels a bit guilty for not being in a maelstrom of controversy with public meetings being called to resolve important planning issues, but really the business of an amenity society should normally be a programme of watchfulness over planning matters and keeping up the interest of its membership and the population of the town generally in preserving and maintaining what we feel best reflects Lymington itself.

Visit to Tim Phillips’ Vineyard at Ramley House – NOW 26th July

vineyardFollowing the very successful and fascinating talk on Tim’s project to turn the hugely overgrown walled garden of Ramley House into a functioning vineyard we are now planning the follow up visit to the see the results of all Tim’s endeavours.

As set out above this has now been moved to the following Saturday the 26th and I would be obliged if you could spread the word that this is now taking place a week later.

The entrance will be sign posted on the day so make your way to Ramley House in Ramley Road at about 1.45 pm on the 26th

There is no fee for this event and no tickets are needed – Just turn up.

There is very limited parking outside and Tim has asked if people try and car share if at all possible. Tim has asked that you park in the gravel layby next to the bus stop where there is parking for about 6 cars.
